Resources that help you teach media literacy to young people and their parents

The Get Your Facts Straight! project partners have developed a 10-hour media literacy training course on disinformation on social media for 14-16 year old youngsters and their parents and grand parents. The course can be implemented both in schools, as well as in non-formal educational settings such as youth clubs, libraries, NGOs.

The training course consists of 3 modules and a final assignment:

  • Module 1: What is disinformation?
  • Module 2: How social media make money and why disinformation and propaganda are vastly present on social media
  • Module 3: How to recognize and react to disinformation

Partnership has prepared a Training Toolkit to support educators and training providers in the implementation of the training course.

The Toolkit contains:

  • training outline with detailed description of modules, sessions and expected learning outcomes
  • adopted methodology
  • list of open educational resources (OERs) project partners used in the piloting of the training course

Training Toolkit is available in English, Bulgarian, Catalan, Croatian, German, ItalianLatvian, Romanian and Spanish language.

NB: The piloting of the training course was heavily affected by COVID-19 pandemics. Because of lockdown measures project partners had to transform the training course from a face-to-face activity to an online activity. The most important lessons and recommendations from this experience are also described in the Toolkit. For those interested in the background research done prior to the development of the training course that consists of literature review and research based on the training criteria, methodology for the training, participant selection criteria and potential challenges in conducting the training as well as possible solutions project partners prepared Training Methodology Report.

The document is available in English, Bulgarian, Croatian, German, Italian, Latvian and Romanian language.

In addition to the above materials, project partners used other resources and practices during the preparatory phase and piloting activities. These resources have been tested in various training sessions and have already and proved their efficiency.

The resources have been categorized to 4 groups and marked with language(s) they are available in:
