European Get Online Week 2012 in Latvia was organized and coordinated by the Latvian Information and communication Technology Association (LIKTA) in cooperation with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development. An impressive number of 890 special events were organized in the frame of Get Online Week in Latvia, reaching more than 36.000 people (also the highest national counter engagement, with over 17.000 people).
The first ICT Career Day was organized in Latvia during the Get online week. The aim of the event was to provide 9 to 12 grade students an opportunity to discover the secrets of the professions of the ICT industry. Information and communication technology oriented companies and organizations attended the event, giving the students an opportunity to follow professionals like programmers, software testers, customer support specialists and high level managers. The seminars to learn more about ICT career opportunities were offered to more than 230 students and teachers.
European Get Online Week 2012 in Latvia was organized and coordinated by the Latvian Information and communication Technology Association (LIKTA) in cooperation with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development. Get Online Week 2012 was a digital inclusion and awareness raising campaign that took place in public internet centers, in NGOs, libraries, education venues, ICT enterprises and premises of other stakeholders all over Latvia.
This year, Latvia was one of the most active countries in Europe. More than 36.000 people including more than 2.000 who used computer and internet for the first time in their lives took part in activities in cities and rural regions all over Latvia. More than 200 partners were involved in organization of Get online week in Latvia – ministries, ICT companies, municipalities, telecentres, schools, libraries and other NGOs. There were 890 special events organized in the frame of Get Online Week in Latvia for all kind of audiences. Live interactive internet broadcasting of seminars and discussions was also organized on March 26, 27 and 28.
LIKTA created a dedicated web page www.eprasmes.lv where they presented all support, information and content related to the Get Online Week 2012 partners and participants:

» A variety of especially prepared e-skills training and e-services promoting materials in PPT, video, text and graphical formats
» A calendar chapter of the web page with a full list of the 890 events with detailed info about venue, time, target audience and other details
» A series of 59 GOW2012 videos promoted the campaign, e-Skills and e-services, all published on LIKTA’s YouTube account
Main activities of Get Online Week 2012 in Latvia:
- The central events of the GOW 2012 week were live broadcasted on the Internet by Lattelecom at www.piesledzieslatvija.lv and www.esmaja.lv. The main events live on the Internet were:» Opening Event “ICT Policy Makers Discussion with Social Partners” on March 26
» Seminar – discussion for School Audience “ICT Tools for Education” on March 26
» Seminar “E-opportunities for SME’s” on March 27
» Conference “E-opportunities for Citizens” on March 28
More than 1.000 unique visitors connected to the broadcasts every day. - The state agency “Culture Information Systems” and the network of the libraries in all regionsactively involved citizens in the Get nline Week activities in Latvia.226 municipal public libraries took part in the organization of 654 different e-skills related events – conferences, seminars, consultations, training, contests, competitions, exhibitions etc.
- Events held in Latvian, Russian and English were well attended by more than 15.000 participants – unemployed, students, young people, and specialists of various fields, entrepreneurs and seniors.

The barometer is an online assessment tool, designed to self- evaluate the knowledge of safely using computers and the internet. The target audience is teachers and facilitators of educational institutions, as well as senior grade students and librarians.
3.474 participants completed the test during GOW2012 and demonstrated good knowledge of ICT security skills: the average percentage of the correct answers was 65%.
- The Baltic Computer Academy in cooperation with Lattelecom developed a knowledge assessment online test through which people can find out what they already knew of virtual services and can discover something new.The online questionnaire includes general questions regarding different types of e-services, registration facilities and use. Several thousand participants submitted their responses, demonstrating that overall knowledge of e-services among Latvians is at good level without significant difference between public and private sectors. From all responses submitted, 27% of all respondents were not exceeding the age of 20. Responsiveness of participants gender wise was higher among women, respectively 67%.

Several hundreds of participants from Latvia took part in the test. - In the framework of GOW 2012, the first ICT Career Day was organized in Latvia. - The online resource for reference and education www.letonika.lv – one of the richest digital information repositories in Latvia – was opened to everyone. The portal offered an online competition suitable for everyone in the form of an information finding test in an electronic environment. More than 3.700 citizens took part in the test.
The other activity was introducing and voting for the best digital cultural object, created within letonika.lv by citizens. More than 12.000 votes were made and new enthusiasts willing to contribute and share their knowledge digitally with other society members emerged. - A new profession – the „Computerologist” (Datorologs) – was introduced during the GOW 2012 in Latvia. Very clever, a bit funny, and dedicated to detect, kill and prevent any kind of computer viruses, illnesses or misbehavior in the online society they offer professional advice, computer surgery and virus prevention in Latvia as part of the permanent staff of Cert.lv.
Unfortunately already after the first working day, the computerologists estimated that one third of their patients never used any firewall or anti-virus software and the other third do not update their software frequently enough.

During the Get Online Week Net-Safe Latvia‘s web page was visited twice as more as usually.
- Different educational event for students and their parents were held at schools.
» watch the animated video presentation of Eduards Skabis about the Get Online Week 2012 in Latvia at the Kabile Primary School - In cooperation with the Ministry of Economics, the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia, the Rural Support Service (LAD), Lursoft, the State Revenue Service, the Register of Enterprises, Lattelecom, Microsoft Latvia and Tilde seminars and trainings for entrepreneurs were organized.
- Many activities were offered for first time users: First click, Come and Start!, Juniors for Seniors, One Click to Enter the World, You can: First Steps in the Digital World, Time for Seniors etc.
