The core goal of the Get Online Week 2012 in Ukraine was to help bridge the Information Technology skills gap among underserved population with a focus on youth – teenagers, students and graduates. PH International has supported the Get Online Week 2012 in Ukraine through the network of 50 IDEA ICT community centers – in cooperation with Microsoft Ukraine and eSkills Week.
Over 2.000 students of schools, colleges and universities have taken part in seminars and presentations. Over 70 events were organized in 45 educational institutions, including 30 colleges and universities: Donetsk, Kryvyy Rih, Stryi, Sevastopol, Lutsk, Rivne, Konotop, Dnipropetrovsk, Melitopol, Simferopol, Makeyevka, Krolevets, Zhytomyr, Berehovo, etc.

Events included: IT courses for youth, citizens, civic activists, government employees; Free hours of Internet; Consultations and individual support to youth, citizens and NGOs; Short-term seminars and trainings on using ICT; Presentations about ICT opportunities at state employment centers, partner organizations, libraries about the advantages of using ICT in daily activities;
During the March 26-30 week over 7000 people have participated in trainings, seminars and computers courses, have received consultations and individual classes at IT community centers all over Ukraine. They were involved in the following activities:
» Microsoft Unlimited Potential and Digital Literacy courses – 600 people
» Consultations and individual support to ICT centers’ participants – 1900 people

» Trainings and presentations have attracted additional 2500 participants: 20 events at partner organizations and government institutions; 30 events at the state employment centers and 50 events at IDEA ICT centers, including 20 trainings on developing employability skills
Trainings and seminars included following topics: Basics of today’s IT; How IT can increase the organizational efficiency; IT for NGOs; Writing the resume; Job search on the Internet; Blogs: creation and development; 7 IT steps to a successful career (developed together with Microsoft Ukraine); Social media for professional usage; Children’s safety online, etc. Participants were the most interested in the following topics: How to find a job via Internet? Can I make money on the Internet? Using computer for education and work; Using social media; Safety online; How to write a resume? IT opportunities for people with disabilities; Distant learning, online consultations, legal advices. Participants aged over 55 were mainly interested in conducting searches on the Internet, reading online, finding books, useful information, communications – email, skype, etc.
Dissemination
» The information about Get Online Week was posted on the IDEA project web-site www.idea-ukraine.org, Facebook page of IDEA and Microsoft Ukraine. Also the majority of local IDEA centers have posted announcements about 2012 campaign on their pages and announcements of this week training and events.
» There have been developed by Microsoft Ukraine and PH International and provided to IDEA trainers a PowerPoint presentation named “Seven IT Steps to a Successful Career”. The presentation was distributed to local IDEA centers, posted on the IDEA web-site and on Microsoft Ukraine Facebook page where it collected 2,500 views.
» PH International has also partnered with with rabota.ua, one of the largest Ukrainian job portal. The web banner produced by MS Ukraine ran at student.rabota.ua announcing the Skillage test. The site was viewed over 14,000 times with 10,000 unique visitors at this period.
» Microsoft Ukraine produced a special video Why e-skills are important for building your career featuring Microsoft Ukraine General Manager Dmitry Shymkiv. He talked about his own career and how technology was an integral part of it, announced the upcoming eSkills and Get Online Week and encouraging citizens to attend IDEA centers of PH International.
Media coverage
Microsoft Ukraine as a main partner of eSkills Week and Get Online Week of IDEA has worked with national media while local IDEA centers have worked with local regional TV and other media. The news release “Two Thirds of All Vacancies for Graduates in Ukraine Require Computer Skills” featuring events in Ukraine, the Skillage test and the IDEA project was produced by Microsoft Ukraine and distributed to national media. As a result, there were generated over 20 stories in the media, including:

PH International and local IDEA centers worked directly with local media: TV, newspapers and online media. As a result two TV broadcastings were produced about the eSkills week and the IDEA center in Zaporizhzhya region and five articles in regional newspapers and a number of online articles.
