Get Online Week 2012 will be launched in Brussels on March 8

Get Online Week 2012 will be officially launched in Brussels on International Women’s Day, 8th March 2012.

The event will take place at Telecentre-Europe AISBL‘s headquarters in Brussels and hosted by the Belgian member organization Interface3, a telecentre network run by women for women.

Get Online Week 2012 is supported by the European Commission and Neelie Kroes, EC Vice President and Commissioner responsible for the Digital Agenda will open the launch event, adressing the role of women in ICT for empowerment, employment and growth.

An interactive, participatory workshop session will take place with demonstrations of Skillage (lead by Telecentre-Europe) and Internet buttons (lead by Liberty Global) and creative methodologies (lead by Greenlight for Girls and Interface3) used by digital inclusion practitioners to engage and empower users.

Alongside Comissioner Kroes and MEPs Silvia-Adriana Ţicau, Amelia Andersdotter & Edit Herczog, industry representatives Genevieve Bell (Intel) and Sylvie Laffarge (Microsoft) will participate in a round table discussion  with telecentre network representatives Gabriela Barna (EOS, Romania), Ekaterina Fedotova (PH, Russia) and Laure Lemaire (Interface3, Belgium), together with young women involved with Greenlight for girls and Interface3.

At the end of the event, the Get Online Week counter will be launched by Telecentre-Europe and MEPs
